Yo Gotti — Exclusive Pics
“I think, just messaging,” Yo Gotti said to HollywoodLife when describing the difference between his 2020 album ‘Untrapped,’ and his previous album, ‘I Still Am.’ “All my music is the expression of what I’m going through in life.” And Yo Gotti has gone through a lot. He lost half-a-millon dollars on a single blackjack bet, a move that made Jay-Z flip out. He took Moneybagg Yo under his wing, mentoring the next generation of rappers to reach their own heights of success. Gotti has even taken up the cause of prison reform, following the violent death of five prisoners in the Mississippi state correctional system. On top of all this, Gotti has put together what might be his biggest album to date. ‘Untrapped,’ released on Jan. 31, sees the veteran rapper team up with other hip-hop heavyweights like Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Uzi Vert, DaBaby, and more. Before ‘Untrapped’ was set free, Yo Gotti stopped by HollywoodLife to talk about the album, what has to happen for it to be considered a success, and more/
Yo Gotti Wants Fans To Connect To His Music
“For [Untrapped] to be a success, the music has to come out and the fans have to receive it well,” Yo Gotti says when speaking EXCLUSIVELY with HollywoodLife. “They have to really connect to it. That’s the most important part to me.”
Yo Gotti Is Here For The Fans
“Do [the fans] really feel it? Does [the songs] really touch them?” Yo Gotti tells HollywoodLife when discussing what needs to happen for him to view his album ‘Untrapped’ as a success. “Is it really like therapy to them? That’s what music is to me.”
Yo Gotti’s Music Is About Expression
“All my music is an expression of what I’m going through in life,” Yo Gotti tells HollywoodLife when sitting down for an EXCLUSIVE interview. “I think a lot of the things I’ve accomplished in the last year, year-and-a-half, and a lot of the experiences, the things I’ve been dealing with, those are the messages on [‘Untrapped.’]”
Yo Gotti Isn’t Sore About THAT Blackjack Loss
“To me, that was like, a five MILLION dollar experience,” Yo Gotti tells HollywoodLife when recounting how he lost $500k on a hand of blackjack during Jay-Z’s Shawn Carter charity event. “I’m a kid from Memphis, Tennessee, to be on that platform, playing blackjack with Jay-Z … that’s a blessing within itself.”
Yo Gotti Measures Success By Impact
“I don’t measure success by money, even though I’m about my money,” Yo Gotti tells HollywoodLife ahead of the release of his 2020 album, ‘Untrapped.’ “I measure it by impact. What kind of impact does the music have on the people.”
Yo Gotti Is About The Message
Though the messaging has evolved, Yo Gotti remains real. Ahead of releasing his ‘Untrapped’ album — featuring DaBaby, Lil Uzi Vert, Megan Thee Stallion and more – Gotti stopped by HollywoodLife to talk his music, his prison reform efforts, and what it felt like to lost $500k in blackjack with Jay-Z.
