Laine Hardy is the winner of season 17 of ‘American Idol.’ He beat out runner-up, Alejandro Aranda, and third place finisher, Madison VanDenburg, to be named the big winner during the show’s finale on May 19, 2019. Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry were the judges of the season. Laine actually first auditioned for ‘Idol’ during season 16 in 2018. He made it all the way to the Final Judgement round, but was sent home by the judges at that time. During the season 17 auditions, he returned simply to play guitar for a friend who was auditioning. At the audition, the judges begged him to perform a song himself, and they offered him a golden ticket to Hollywood Week. Laine was a bit hesitant, but he accepted the ticket, and this time, made it to the live shows.
