Antonio was born on Aug. 10, 1960 in Málaga, Spain. As a teenager, he began showing an interest in the arts and acting. He pursued a career in theatre and acted in plays for the Spanish National Theatre. After meeting Madonna — who featured him in her racy 1991 documentary ‘Truth Or Dare’) — he began making films in Hollywood. His first English language film ‘The Mambo Kings’ in 1992, and he went on to do ‘Assassins’ with Sylvestor Stallone and ‘Evita’, once again, with Madonna. In 1998, he appeared in perhaps his most iconic film ever, ‘The Mask of Zorro’ opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones.
The actor notably married Melanie Griffith in 1996 — after meeting on the 1995 set of ‘Two Much’ — and they welcomed daughter Stella just months later. The couple later split in June 2014, citing they were divorcing in a “loving and friendly manner.” The same year, Antonio began dating his now girlfriend, Dutch investent advisor Nicole Kimpel.
