Kacey and Ruston first met at Nashville’s legendary Bluebird Cafe, and connected during a songwriting session in May 2016. They got engaged in December of that year, and tied the knot less than one year later in Oct. 2017, going on to attend several red carpet events as a couple. Speculation began that there was trouble in paradise after they did not attend the CMA Awards in Nov. 2019, with Kacey taking close friend Gigi Hadid instead. Follwoing Ruston’s absence at the award show, the pair both deleted all photos of each other on their social media accounts in Jan. 2020. Months later, they confirmed that they were splitting in a lengthy post issued on Friday, July 3. ‘We believe that we were put into each other’s lives for a divine reason and have both changed each other infinitely for the better. The love we have for each other goes far beyond the relationship we’ve shared as husband and wife. It’s a soul connection that can never be erased,’ they said. ‘We’ve made this painful decision together — a healthy decision that comes after a very long period of trying the best we can.
