Celebrity Sex Addicts
Celebrities like Tiger Woods have shined a spotlight on sex addiction, a disorder that affects roughly three in 100 American adults, according to a 2014 study. More than just a proclivity for sex, it’s an addiction that affects sufferers everyday lives. The golf legend, Washington Football Team player Mike Caussin, and former NBA superstar Lamar Odom are just a few of the stars who have confessed to being addicted to sex.
Some celebrities, like Tiger, Mike, and David Duchovny, have sought treatment at rehab centers for their sex addiction and have come out the other side better for it. Mike Caussin
Mike Caussin discussed his sex addiction in his joint memoir with wife Jana Kramer, The Good Fight. The couple separated in 2016 when he entered rehab for his addiction, and reunited the next year.
“”I want to be very clear about something: society has had the nerve to call sex addiction a ‘married man’s excuse’ to which I say bull…(wait for it)…s**t,” Mike writes in The Good Fight. “Addiction is not an excuse at all, and I make sure to never use it as such. However it is an explanation.”
Jada Pinkett Smith
Jada Pinkett Smith confessed on Red Table Talk that she’s suffered from a sex addiction in the past, saying that she “went cold turkey” to conquer it.
“I am a binger, and I always have to watch myself and I can just get obsessed with things,” Jada said. “It’s not what you’re doing but how you’re with it. Why you’re doing it. It’s the behavior that’s attached to it because if you want to have a lot of sex, that’s great, but why are you having all that sex? That’s what you’ve got to look at.”
Lamar Odom
Lamar Odom wrote in his 2019 memoir, Darkness to Light, that he has had sex with over 2000 women. I have been obsessed with sex for as long as I can remember. I am a sex addict,” he wrote, noting that he knew he had a problem when he “ran out of porn to watch. That’s how you know when you are going a little overboard.”
David Duchovny
David Duchovny famously confessed to sex addiction in 2008. The actor entered rehab after cheating on his wife of 11 years, actress Tea Leoni. Coincidentally, he was playing a sex addict on Showtime’s Californication at the time of his confession.
Tiger Woods
Tiger Woods confessed to sex addiction and went to rehab in 2010 after an infamous car crash, and fight with wife Elin Nordegren, that revealed his extramarital affairs. “I want to say to each of you simply and directly I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior I engaged in,” Tiger said at a press conference. “The issue involved here was my repeated irresponsible behavior. I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated. What I did is not acceptable, and I am the only person to blame.”
Russell Brand
Russell Brand detailed his 2005 stay in rehab for sex addiction in his memoir My Booky Wook. “At one point, about five years ago, I had a harem of about 10 women, whom I would rotate in addition to one-night stands and random casual encounters… I was on the brink of becoming sufficiently well known for my carnal overindulgences – with lapdancers and prostitutes, to say nothing of all the women who didn’t sell sex for a living – to cause me professional difficulties.”
Dean McDermott
Dean McDermott entered rehab in 2014 for sex addiction after cheating on wife Tori Spelling. His stay was chronicled on their reality show, True Tori. In 2019, he said their relationship has never been stronger: “We’ve been through so much together. We’ve grown so much together. There’s ups and downs. And there was a big down, but we work through that and just made the love we had for each other stronger.”
